ISLAMABAD: A recent report by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has uncovered a sharp and alarming increase in the prices of several commonly used medicines, raising concerns among patients and healthcare providers.
According to the report, the price of Coldrex tablets has surged by a record 1621%, with a pack that previously cost Rs 27 now being sold for Rs 475.
Medicines used for bone health, such as Kalv, have increased by 302%, while the widely used pain relief cream Brufen has become more than 244% more expensive.
Similarly, the price of the well-known eye ointment Polyfax has risen from Rs 34 to Rs 113.
For stomach and intestinal issues, Librax has seen a 241% increase in price, while allergy injection Avil has jumped from Rs 432 to Rs 1,500.
Laxatives such as Laxoberon have also become significantly costlier, with price hikes reaching up to 200%.
In addition, Stemetil, commonly used for nausea and dizziness, has become 188% more expensive.
The report highlights widespread inflation in pharmaceutical products, sparking concerns over affordability and access to essential medicines for the general public.
