ISLAMABAD: The federal government has recently issued a new regulation regarding the payment of health allowances to medical and healthcare staff working in federal institutions.

According to the latest notification, the allowance will only be provided to employees directly involved in patient care and treatment processes.

According to the office notice issued by the Ministry of Finance, individuals who will be considered for this allowance include medical or dental doctors, allied specialists, pharmacists, nurses, paramedics, and others involved in direct patient health services. Employees involved in administrative or non-health functions will not be considered for this allowance.

The clarification came in the wake of a Supreme Court of Pakistan ruling on the 4th of July 2024, where the court explained what is deemed to constitute direct provision of health services, including the reception, treatment, and health care of patients.

The new guidelines aim at ensuring there is clarity in the payment of the health allowance in health institutions run by the federal government.
