RAHIM YAR KHAN: A rare case of another baby inside a child has come to light in Rahim Yar Khan.
A spokesperson for Sheikh Zayed Hospital said that an incomplete newborn has been removed from the chest of a 5-year-old child.
Thoracic surgeon Dr. Sultan Mehmood Owaisi, who performed the surgery, said that the team successfully completed the delicate operation. The newborn removed was premature and could not be saved.
According to the hospital spokesperson, the condition of the 5-year-old child is satisfactory after the operation and the patient is being provided with the best medical facilities.
Dr. Sultan says that the ‘fetus’ removed through the operation was located near the main artery of the heart. In such cases, this baby-like object is mostly found in the abdomen, but this case was also unique because the baby was present in the chest. Many of the child’s organs had formed but it could not be diagnosed for five years.
On the other hand, according to the British news agency BBC, Dr. Sultan Owaisi said that 5 years ago, when the child was 18 days old, he had difficulty breathing, chest infections and cough and often had fever. The child was taken to several doctors, but now when the child’s CT scan was done, it was diagnosed as ‘fats in fetus’.
He further said that the baby that was removed from the 5-year-old child had some organs formed, it had a spine, hair, teeth and other organs, except for the head, everything was there, it weighed about one kilogram.
Speaking to the BBC, Professor Nadeem Akhtar (Head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences or PIMS Hospital) said, “A baby-like object grows in the stomach, but most often it is a tumor or a neoplasm that does not necessarily have the ability to spread in the body. It remains in the same place where it occurs, mostly in the lower abdomen.”
According to Professor Nadeem Akhtar, this condition was named ‘fats in fat’ because ‘fats have three layers, which are also present in this tumor.’
