Rawalpindi reports 117 new dengue cases in last 24 hours

RAWALPINDI: Dengue cases are on the rise in Rawalpindi, with the city reporting 117 cases in the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

The health department shared the data which showed that currently 241 dengue patients are admitted while 16 people have lost their lives due to this deadly virus during this year.

According to the health department, the total number of dengue virus infected patients this year has reached 5279.

Yesterday (November 4), at least 104 more positive dengue cases were reported in the city. Officials claimed that Potohar town was the epicenter of the outbreak.

In a separate development, the deputy commissioner last month declared a district-wide dengue emergency, saying that patients had been diagnosed with a more dangerous strain of the dengue virus. The total number of confirmed dengue cases so far this season has risen to 5279 and 16 deaths have occurred.

Earlier, the National Institute of Health (NIH) had compiled a nationwide report regarding dengue cases from January 1 to October 26. According to the report, the total number of cases across Pakistan has reached 15,997 , while there were 10 deaths across the country.

The report said the highest number of dengue cases came from Balochistan where 6,831 cases were reported, although there were no deaths this year.

Meanwhile, in Punjab, 4,390 cases were recorded, with eight deaths, while in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 1,853 cases and two deaths were reported. The report states that Sindh and Gilgit-Baltistan have not yet shared their dengue data with the federal government.
