Lahore: Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police Dr. Usman Anwar has commended a female police officer for her efforts in rescuing a woman from a mob of violent protestors on Sunday afternoon in the Ichchra neighborhood of Lahore.

According to accounts, some individuals in Lahore’s Ichchra neighborhood began yelling religious chants because they believed the woman’s traditional jalabiya robe to contain sacred scriptures. “There is only one punishment for those who disrespect the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and that punishment is his/her beheading,” some of the mob’s members were heard yelling.
