Tareen terms PHC’s decision contrary to public expectations

Patron-in-Chief of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), Jahangir Khan Tareen, mocked the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Friday, stating that a crippled party could not be revived using the crutches of an election symbol, the “cricket bat.”

Tuesday saw the suspension of the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision to revoke the PTI’s popular symbol and annul its intra-party polls by the Peshawar High Court.

In its directive, the PHC instructed the electoral body to reinstate the PTI’s electoral symbol and post the party’s certificate on its website.
The IPP chief described the PHC’s decision as being against public expectations in a statement released here.

According to Tareen, the ECP has the power to grant or withhold the election symbol to any political party. He expressed the nation’s extreme concern over the rash and unilateral decisions made regarding the current political and domestic environment.

“Those who undercut the foundations of the country do not deserve any concession,” declared Tareen. Why should individuals who undermined Pakistan’s international reputation be given a pass?

For three and a half years, the IPP chief accused the previous ruling PTI of manipulating the nation’s economy.
