The district administration has declared a public holiday on March 7 in Bhawalpur on the occasion of Mela Channan Monday.
The district government in a notification stated that Thursday, March 7 will be a local holiday in Bhawalpur district. The mela is attended by Muslim and Hindu devotees.
The mela is named after the Sufi Saint buried in the village of Channan Pir, located approximately 65 km from Bahawalpur.

Every year, the Channan Pir mela is held in the Cholistan desert on seven consecutive Thursdays beginning in February. The most popular day is the fifth Thursday, which also serves as a local holiday. It serves as a focus for Cholistan’s spiritual and cultural legacy.
For hundreds of years, people have flocked from all around Cholistan and beyond to participate in the festivities.
On the other hand, the Bahawalpur Board has said that matriculation exams will be held as scheduled despite the announcement public holiday across the district. The exams to be held on March 7 will continue as scheduled. Exams in Geography, Commercial Geography, Computer Hardware, Environmental Studies, and Home Economics will proceed as planned.
