Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Liaqat Ali Chattha’s claims about massive rigging in the Feb 8 elections on Saturday raised serious concerns about the transparency of recently held general elections.

After the commissioner’s resignation and allegations, incumbent authorities including the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rejected Liaqat Ali Chattha’s shocking claims and ordered an inquiry into the matter.

During the recently held election, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) remained the top political party in Rawalpindi and adjoining districts, securing 11 seats of the National Assembly out of 13 in the general elections 2024.
