ISLAMABAD: Former caretaker federal minister Gohar Ijaz has termed the proposed tax relief given to the salaried class in the presented budget as insufficient and has proposed to further reduce the tax burden on the salaried class.

While presenting the proposals, the former federal minister said that a heavy burden of taxes has been placed on people earning less than 1.5 million per month.

These people are already facing difficulties in meeting their basic needs due to heavy taxes.

Gohar Ijaz said that the salaried class is having trouble paying electricity and gas bills due to taxes, while due to heavy taxes, they are facing difficulties in providing education and health facilities to their children.

Demanding more tax relief for the salaried class, he said that there should be only 3 income tax slabs for the salaried class.

The first is that a 5 percent tax should be imposed on the monthly income of one to five lakh rupees. The second is that a 10 percent tax should be imposed on the monthly income of five to one million rupees, while a 20 percent tax should be imposed on the monthly income of more than one million rupees.

The former federal minister also said in his suggestions that the salaried class should be allowed to spend by providing tax relief to the middle class of the country. If the salaried class spends, the government will get tax revenue.
