Gunfight in Mardan, SP martyred, three police officers injured

PESHAWAR: Early on Tuesday morning in Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, an intelligence-based operation against terrorists resulted in the martyrdom of a senior police official and the injury of three others.

While a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) was hurt during the operation, superintendent of police (SP) Ijaz Khan accepted martyrdom.

In the gunfight in Mardan’s Katlang tehsil, two wanted terrorists were also slain, according to the counterterrorism department (CTD). Among them was Mohsin Kadir, a jihadist on the wanted list.

Not long after the incident, the police personnel who had been hurt were taken to a hospital.

Following the incident, the funeral prayers of SP Ijaz were performed and were attended by District Police Officer (DPO) Najeeb and other police officials. However, Qaisar Khan, a police officer, also chose martyrdom after being shot and killed on Monday night in Peshawar by unknown motorcycle riders.

At the Malik Saad Police Lines, policeman Qaisar’s funeral prayer was said. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kashif Aftab Abbasi was present, along with other law enforcement officers.
