The Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued notices to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Tuesday regarding the suspension of social media platform X (Twitter).

IHC Chief Justice, Justice Aamer Farooq, heard the appeal against the suspension of X, formerly known as Twitter. The microblogging site has remained restricted in Pakistan since February 17.

During the hearing, Justice Aamer asked, “Is X closed?”

The applicant’s lawyer informed the IHC CJ that X services have been closed in Pakistan since February 17. The lawyer also told the court that the Sindh High Court will hear a plea related to contempt of court today.

After issuing notices to the PTA and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the IHC adjourned the case hearing for one week.

SHC Chief Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi issued the orders on a plea filed by multiple petitioners including Zarrar Khuhro, Amber Shamsi, Zebunnisa Burki, and others against intermittent disruptions faced by users in accessing the X which has witnessed various “unannounced” sporadic disruption in recent weeks.
