MPAs elects Babar Saleem Swati as Speaker KP Assembly

Sunni Ittehad Council candidate backed by PTI Babar Saleem Swati was elected as Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in a session presided over by the outgoing Speaker Mushtaq Ghani on Thursday.

PTI-backed candidate Babar Saleem Swati, who emerged victorious from the KP-37 Mansehra seat, secured 89 votes while PPP’s Ehsanullah Miankhel secured 17 votes.

Outgoing speaker Mushtaq Ghani administered the oath of Babar Swati.

Moreover, voting for the deputy speaker of the KP assembly is underway. PTI woman candidate Surayya Bibi from chitral is contesting for the deputy speaker office against PTI-P member Arbab Waseem.

Yesterday, newly elected members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly were sworn in during an inaugural session marred by extreme disorder and ruckus in the house.

During the swearing-in ceremony, which started almost two hours late, 115 newly elected members of the provincial assembly took oath.
