Pakistan sweeps gold, bronze medals in Australian Junior Squash Championship

MELBOURNE: The Pakistani squash team has showcased exceptional talent by clinching five gold and three bronze medals in the Australia Junior Squash Championship 2024 held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre at Albert Park, Victoria.

The Australian Junior Open witnessed outstanding performances from Pakistani players across various categories.

Pakistan’s Mehwish Ali claimed the Girls Under 17 gold medal after defeating Xin Yii Lee in one of the best matches played on April 11. Pakistan also claimed Under 17 boys titles with Ibrahim Zeb beating New Zealand top seed Brodie Bennett by 4/3.

Pakistan made it a clean sweep of the Boys’s Under 13 with Pakistan’s Huzaifa Shaid taking just 13 minutes to account for Malaysia’s Ong Hung Yu in three games. In Boys Under 15, a showdown between Henry Kross of Australia against Pakistan’s Yahya Khan. Yahya Khan triumphed over Henry Kross by 3-0.

In Girls U-13, Mahnoor Ali (Pakistan) outshined Japan’s Emily Senior (Malaysia) by 3-0. Having dropped just 16 points in her opening three matches of the championship, Mahnoor Ali conceded only 13 in the final to play her way to gold.

Meanwhile, M. Harmas Ali Raja, Fawad Khan, and Azaan Ali Khan secured bronze medals in the Under 11, Under 13, and 15 categories, respectively.

Honourary Secretary of the Pakistan Squash Federation, Amir Nawaz, extended congratulations to all the young squash champions. He lauded their hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship.
