LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has dismissed a petition against putting the picture of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Supremo Nawaz Sharif on the Kisan card on Monday.

Lahore High Court’s (LHC) Justice Shahid Karim heard the plea filed by a citizen Mashkoor Hussain last week on the matter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s picture on Kisan Card in Punjab.

The petitioner’s lawyer Advocate Nadeem Sarwar argued that the Supreme Court has repeatedly prohibited such personal advertising, advertising cannot be done with public money. The applicant in his plea stated that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has okayed to emboss the picture of Nawaz Sharif on a Kisan Card and urged the LHC to stay the decision until a decision on the plea.

In response, the Punjab government’s lawyer said that nothing is finalized yet to print Nawaz Sharif’s picture on the Kisan card. This application is filed ahead of time, the government lawyer said.

The public prosecutor informed the court that the Punjab government isn’t printing the picture of Nawaz Sharif on Kissan Card. The court asked the petitioner to move the petition again if the government takes such a step.

The petitioner later withdrew the petition at the insistence of the court.

The “Nawaz Sharif Kissan Card Project,” which aims to improve the socioeconomic status of farmers in the province and the agriculture industry, was approved by Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz.

The meeting on agricultural reforms was chaired by the chief minister. She declared that 500,000 small farmers would receive easy-to-repay loans under the Kissan card. This one-year loan has a 150 billion rupee value.

Additionally, loans of Rs 30,000 per acre would be provided to farmers so they can buy insecticides, fertilizers, and seeds. She said that farmers would also receive various forms of subsidies under the Nawaz Sharif Kissan Card.
