PML-N government to restore free Wi-Fi service in Punjab
After the announcement of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, the initiative to provide free Wi-Fi service in public places across Punjab is set to be restored.
The free Wi-Fi project will be carried out by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), and reports indicate that hotspots and other outdated infrastructure will be reinstated.
The project aims to provide free Wi-Fi access at public places like educational institutions, hospitals, bus stops, and railway stations. Additionally, efforts will be made to identify and deploy new hotspot areas to increase Wi-Fi access to the public.

When the project was launched, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) was entrusted with the task of providing and maintaining the facility to the people. The responsibility for free Wi-Fi service in public places has now been handed over to the Provincial Technology Board PITB.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government had earlier introduced free Wi-Fi service in Lahore and other cities during its government in 2013, but the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) stopped providing this service due to non-payment during its government.
The revival of the service is expected to benefit the public by providing access to the Internet at key locations, promoting connectivity, and facilitating communication.
