South Sudan tops the list, with a per capita GDP of $492.72, making it the world’s poorest nation. The country’s poverty is mostly caused by political instability, recent conflict, and a lack of infrastructure.

On the other hand, Luxembourg is the world’s wealthiest country, with an astounding GDP per capita of $145,834. Ireland, Singapore, and Qatar follow closely behind.

A noteworthy trend highlighted in the IMF report is the prevalence of African nations among the world’s top ten poorest countries. Burundi ranks second behind South Sudan, with a per capita GDP of $936.42, followed by the Central African Republic ($1,140.00).

Other African countries featured in the IMF report include the Democratic Republic of the Congo ($1,570.00), Mozambique ($1,650.00), Malawi ($1,710.00), Niger ($1,730.00), Chad ($1,860.00), Liberia ($1,880.00), and Madagascar ($1,990.00).

These countries, primarily in Sub-Saharan Africa, struggle with limited resources, fast population expansion, and a large reliance on agriculture, making them vulnerable to poverty.
