PTI-backed elected MNA Ilyas Chaudhry abducted from Jhelum

The PTI-backed newly-elected member of the National Assembly from NA-62 (Gujrat-1), Muhammad Ilyas Chaudhry was abducted from Jhelum on Tuesday.

Chaudhry Ilyas was abducted at the Jhelum River checkpoint while en route to Islamabad from Sarai Alamgir. Ilyas was elected member National Assembly as an independent candidate with PTI support.

On the other hand, the police refused any involvement regarding the arrest of Ilyas Chaudhry. A cousin of Chaudhry Ilyas has filed an FIR at the Jhelum City police station.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Chaudhry Ilyas was abducted while on his way to Islamabad.

Jhelum Police stated that the police have launched an investigation into the alleged kidnapping of the elected MNA from Sarai Alamgir.

Muhammad Ilyas Chaudhry emerged victorious in the NA-62 election with 97,436 votes, while Chaudhry Abid Raza of the PML-N secured the runner-up position with 71,154 votes.
