Punjab students allowed to wear ‘any warm clothing’ starting Wednesday, January 10

LAHORE: The Punjab government’s School Education Department issued an official notification on Monday allowing students to wear “any warm clothing, sweaters, jackets, caps, etc., along with any shoes for protection against the cold weather.”

This proactive measure is intended to protect the health of students attending primary schools in Punjab during the cold season.

Despite increased public demand and widespread expectations for the extension of school holidays, the government has decided to resume regular activities in both private and public schools on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.

This decision affects several cities, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Narowal, Kasur, and Gujarat.

While the allowance for any clothing may not appear groundbreaking, it provides relief to both parents and students.

Previously, students were allowed to dress warmly, but the most recent notification emphasizes the importance of protecting children from harsh winter conditions and preventing illness.

Punjab’s current weather conditions, which include persistent smog and fog, make daily life difficult. Lahore, in particular, experiences nightly and early morning fog, which makes local and intercity travel difficult.

This environmental concern adds another layer of significance to the government’s decision, emphasizing the importance of practical measures to protect the health and well-being of students in the province.
