ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday morning, heavy fog covered Islamabad and the surrounding Rawalpindi areas for about eight hours in a row, making travel difficult for those who had to commute in the morning.

The city’s main thoroughfares saw a sharp drop in visibility at around 7:30 AM, which led to little traffic flow.

Cars and motorcycles that ventured out onto the roads had to travel at unusually slow speeds in order to stay safe in the dense fog.

There were reports of fog appearing in different parts of Rawalpindi, in addition to Islamabad.

The unusual weather conditions surprised and confused a lot of residents because they are not typical for the area.

The fog’s detrimental effects extended beyond surface transportation; the dangerous conditions forced the closure of several major highways.

The Motorway Police closed the Motorway M1, which connects Peshawar to Islamabad, and the Motorway M5, which runs from Multan to Rohri, because of poor visibility.

The Motorway Police also reported that the heavy fog caused closures on the Swat Expressway, which runs from Colonel Sher Khan to Ismaila.

Remarkably, a spokesperson stated that heavy rain also caused the closure of Motorway M5, which runs from Ghotki to Rohri.

Because of how bad the fog was, authorities moved quickly to ensure commuter safety. Heavy fog caused the M1 motorway, which runs from Rashakai to Peshawar, to close to traffic, adding to the numerous closures in the affected areas.

It remains to be seen how local authorities will handle the situation and give the public the necessary guidance while residents struggle with the unexpected weather.

The necessity of increased awareness and preventative measures during such weather events is highlighted by the closure of important transportation routes.
