Xi Jinping congratulates President Asif Zardari for assuming office

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday congratulated the newly-elected President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari on assuming office.

In his message, Xi said China and Pakistan are good neighbors, good friends, good partners, and good brothers, adding that the two countries’ iron-clad friendship is a choice of history and a precious treasure of the two peoples.

Chinese President Xi has praised the close high-level exchanges between China and Pakistan, their support for each other’s core interests, and the successful construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

He expressed his keenness to work with President Zardari to continue the traditional friendship, advance practical cooperation, and push for a more strategic cooperative partnership. He also aims to build a closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future, benefiting both nations in the new era.

Asif Ali Zardari, the co-chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, has won a second term as president, defeating Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the candidate supported by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the Sunni Ittehad Council.

Asif Ali Zardari was elected as the 14th President of Pakistan. Asif Zardari has received 411 votes from Senate and National Assembly while his opponent Mahmood Khan Achakzai has managed to get 181 votes.
