Yusuf Raza Gilani, Saidal Khan elected Senate Chairman, Deputy Chairman unopposed

ISLAMABAD: Ruling alliance candidate and former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani has been elected as Chairman Senate unopposed today after no nomination papers were submitted in his opposition.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s candidate (PML-N) Saidal Khan Nasir was also elected unopposed in the slot of Deputy Chairman of the Senate. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar presided over today’s Senate session where 43 newly-elected  Senators took oath amid the PTI boycott and protest.

Yesterday, PTI’s core committee decided to boycott the Senate election and moved a petition to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and Senate secretariat urging a delay in the election owing to the postponement of the Senate election in KP.
