MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan and the Pataudi family have won a long-running legal dispute over their ancestral property in Bhopal, bringing an end to a nearly 25-year-old case.
According to Indian media, the Bhopal district court has ruled in favor of Saif Ali Khan and his family, rejecting all claims filed over 16.62 acres of land in the Nayapura area.
The total value of this land is estimated to be around 16,000 crore Indian rupees.
Under the court decision, the ownership of the land has been formally restored to the Pataudi family. Along with Saif Ali Khan, his mother and senior actress Sharmila Tagore, sister Soha Ali Khan and other legal heirs were also parties in the case.
The matter had been pending in the court since 1998, when a few individuals, including Aqeel Ahmed, claimed that the land in question was not owned by the Pataudi family but was gifted to their ancestors by Nawab Hamidullah Khan of the erstwhile state of Bhopal in 1936.
However, during the court proceedings, the plaintiffs failed to present any credible or authentic documentary evidence in support of their claim.
The court, after a detailed review of the available records and evidence, held that there was no credible evidence of transfer or gift of the land, due to which the claim was dismissed.
The court’s decision has ended the long-standing uncertainty regarding the ownership of the land. According to legal experts, this decision is being called a major development in cases related to hereditary property.
It should be noted that no official statement has been made by Saif Ali Khan or his representatives on this decision so far.
