CAIRO: Social media life is full of deceit and fraud, as famous artists apply filters and edits to appear glam, and now an Egyptian content creator’s story is going viral online, who duped millions, just to gain fame and wealth.
The stunning twist rendered Egypt speechless, as one of TikTok’s most popular female influencers, Yasmin, has been revealed to be an 18-year-old male student. The stunning reveal came after the police received a deluge of complaints regarding Yasmin’s daring dance videos.
Police then called her in for interrogation, and reality burst as behind her glamorous image was a teenager from a rural village named Abdul Rahman.
Abdul Rahman admitted that he created the idea to acquire followers and earn money. His statement shocked his community, as well as millions of TikTok followers who believed they followed a young woman. Following legal action, the court initially put him into custody for four days before he was granted bail.
As the neighborhood is still in shock, Abdul Neighbors’ acquaintances said he was an introverted, average student at a hotel and tourism management school.
Egyptian authorities confirmed he to now charged with impersonating a female and disseminating immoral content. This salacious case comes at a time when Egyptian authorities are cracking down on so-called “immoral” conduct on social media.
