Veteran Indian actor Satish Shah passes away at 74

NEW DELHI: Veteran Indian actor Satish Shah died on Saturday at the age of 74. Much acclaimed for his cult character in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Shah died due to kidney failure, Cine and TV Artistes Association official Ashoke Pandit stated.

Pandit broke the news on Instagram, saying, “It is with great sadness that I am here to tell you that our friend and a great actor, Satish Shah, died a few hours back from kidney failure. He was admitted to Hinduja Hospital, where he passed away. A huge loss to the fraternity. Om Shanti.”

Shah’s multi-faceted performances on television and in films got him a special niche in the hearts of viewers, and his death is a great loss to Indian entertainment.

Satish Shah’s Acting Career

Shah’s multifaceted acting skills and perfect comic timing earned him a legendary status in Indian cinema and TV. His rendition of the witty Indravadan Sarabhai won him millions of fans and sealed his reputation as one of the greatest character actors in the business.

Shah’s popularity was at its highest with his acting performances in comedy films like Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983), Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi (1984), Main Hoon Na (2004), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Fanaa (2006), and Om Shanti Om (2007).

He co-judged Comedy Circus with Archana Puran Singh in 2008 and was made a member of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) society in 2015.

A Gujarati Kutchi hailing from Mandvi, Shah studied at Xavier’s College and then attended the Film and Television Institute of India.

He became nationally known with his role in the 1984 sitcom Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, directed by Kundan Shah and Manjul Sinha, where he played 55 characters in 55 episodes.

He also played the role of Prakash in the TV serial Filmy Chakkar for Zee TV in 1995 and acted in 50 episodes.
