LAHORE: Another social media influencer has been arrested in Pakistan as officials tightened the noose around individuals advertising illegal betting and trading websites on social platforms.

Asad Nadeem Mughal has been arrested at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Officials confirmed that Asad arrived in Lahore from Sharjah on a private plane. But the instant his passport was scanned at the immigration, his name showed up in the system, which resulted in an immediate and dramatic arrest on the spot.

Police suspect Asad has a close relationship with Ducky, another social media personality currently in the dock and on trial for the controversial online betting scam that rocked Pakistan’s cyber society.

A few influencers are already in custody in connection with the same bookmaking racket, as the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) continues its open-ended investigation into how social media is being used to facilitate illegal bookmaking and other illicit financial dealings.

YouTube vlogger Rajab Butt has now joined the list of targets of this operation as NCCIA has formally lodged a case against him, claiming that he also marketed gambling apps to his huge online following.

The scandal initially burst with the arrest of Ducky Bhai, who is still incarcerated as courts hear various cases related to his suspected promotion of gambling websites. Investigators are looking deeper into his operations as pressure grows on the influencer fraternity.

And crackdown doesn’t end there because NCCIA formally announced 46 mobile betting applications ILLEGAL in Pakistan. The list of banned apps has some of the most popular games in the world: 1xBet, Chicken Road, Aviator Games, Dafabet, 22Bet, Casumo, Rabona, 10Cric, Plinko, and Bet365.

These sites are not only promoting illegal gambling but also financing unregulated digital financial networks, which pose serious threats to Pakistani users and the economy.

With more and more arrests being made, apps being blacklisted, and probes expanding, the online gambling scandal is rapidly becoming one of the largest cybercrime raids in Paki
