The Punjab luxury aircraft purchase has become a major topic after reports claimed the provincial government bought a Gulfstream G500 worth Rs10 billion. The government has now responded and explained its position on the matter.
Reports said the aircraft carries registration number N144S and has an estimated cost of around Rs10 billion. The plane has previously travelled to Pakistan but is still registered in the United States. It has not yet received local registration.
The news quickly spread on social media. Many people questioned why public money would be used for such an expensive aircraft. Critics said funds should be spent on public welfare instead of luxury facilities for officials.
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari said the aircraft is part of a broader aviation project. She explained that the government is working on building a fleet for Air Punjab.
According to her, the fleet will include different types of planes. Some aircraft will be purchased, while others will be taken on lease. She added that full details will be shared once all arrangements are completed.
Azma Bukhari also responded to comments made by former finance minister Miftah Ismail. She said he often makes incomplete statements.
She added that discussions on certain financial matters can sometimes be wrongly presented as political revenge. The minister stressed that the government will share official information at the right time.
The Punjab government’s clarification comes as public debate continues over the reported aircraft and its purpose.
