With the start of Ramazan 1447 AH, Umrah fares surge sharply, leaving many pilgrims reconsidering their travel plans. Business class tickets now cost around Rs500,000, while economy and economy plus fares have increased to between Rs180,000 and Rs200,000.
The first 10 days of Ramazan usually see a rise in Umrah pilgrims, and this year is no different. Airlines have raised prices due to high demand, affecting both domestic and international travelers.
Previously, economy and economy plus tickets were priced at Rs130,000–140,000. Business class tickets ranged from Rs440,000–450,000. The current increase reflects the usual spike in travel costs during the holy month.
Muhammad Ayub, a travel agent, explained, “Whenever there is a busy season or religious festival, demand goes up. Airlines respond by increasing fares, and all bookings are quickly filled. Agents simply follow the rates set by airlines.”
Pilgrims like Amir Imtiaz Bilal say the higher prices are affecting ordinary people. “It is now a tough decision to even perform this religious duty. A ticket that cost Rs130,000 two months ago is now Rs180,000. The rise is significant,” he shared.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirmed the sighting of the Ramazan crescent moon on Wednesday. The first fast of Ramazan will be observed on Thursday, marking the official start of the holy month.
Travelers are advised to book early to avoid the steepest fares, as airlines are likely to maintain high prices throughout the second and third 10-day periods of Ramazan.
