Weight Loss Injections Before Weddings Can Be Dangerous, Experts Warn

The use of weight loss injections before weddings is rising rapidly as brides and grooms seek quick results. Experts, however, caution that these medications are meant only for people with medical conditions, not for temporary or cosmetic purposes.

Many soon-to-be-wed individuals are showing interest in injections like semaglutide and tirzepatide. These drugs are primarily prescribed to manage type 2 diabetes and obesity. In the market, semaglutide is sold as Ozempic and Wegovy, while tirzepatide is available as Mounjaro and Zepbound.

How These Injections Work

Medical specialists explain that these drugs mimic the hormone GLP-1, which regulates blood sugar, appetite, and digestion. This increases insulin levels, reduces hunger, and slows stomach emptying, resulting in weight loss.

Doctors’ Concerns

In recent months, nearly 20% of inquiries about obesity injections came from women preparing for weddings. Doctors emphasize that these medicines should only be administered to patients who meet specific medical criteria. Using them solely for beauty or wedding preparations is not recommended.

Short-Term Side Effects

Experts report that early use of Mounjaro and Ozempic can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, and loss of appetite. Cosmetic effects may include sagging facial skin, sometimes called “Ozempic face,” and temporary hair loss. In rare cases, serious complications such as pancreatitis, gallstones, and severe digestive issues may occur.

Long-Term Risks

Once the injections are stopped, weight is likely to return, making them unsuitable as a temporary solution. Rapid weight loss may also weaken muscles and bones. Because these drugs slow stomach movement, some individuals may face long-term digestive problems. Research on their extended effects is still ongoing.

Expert Recommendations

Doctors advise that safe and lasting weight management, especially before weddings, is best achieved through a balanced diet, regular exercise, adequate sleep, and medically supervised planning. Seeking quick fixes can pose serious health risks.
