World Cup tickets have become a hot topic, with fans reacting to rising prices and quirky perks around the FIFA World Cup final. Now, it’s one of the most discussed events in global sports, thanks to reports of extremely high resale values and comments by FIFA officials.

High prices and secondary market

Media reports have suggested that some tickets for the World Cup final in the resale market are going for eye-watering sums, with some numbers running up to about $2.3 million per ticket. This has caused debate among fans who feel the sport is becoming less accessible to the ordinary viewer. FIFA President Gianni Infantino said that FIFA is not selling tickets at such inflated prices. In markets such as the United States, he said, tickets can be resold legally, leading to steep price increases.

Infantino also made headlines with a lighthearted comment that anyone buying a very expensive ticket could even get a hot dog and cold drink as a personal gesture. “FIFA is trying to make sure that fans still get a premium experience despite concerns about pricing,” he added. He also said a large number of World Cup tickets for the group stage remain affordable, with some going for less than $300, similar to major college sports events in the US.

The debate around pricing continues to grow as football fans question fairness and accessibility. While the luxury resale deals are the ones that make the headlines, FIFA says official pricing remains more balanced for most fans. The discussion illustrates how the demand for the World Cup continues to generate both excitement and controversy around the world. World Cup tickets are still one of the most discussed topics in global sports today.
