The Karachi-Lahore food debate has always been a hot topic amongst food lovers in Pakistan, and recently former cricket captain Wasim Akram shared his honest opinion on the ongoing discussion. His comments added a new angle to a discussion that often descends into cordial squabbles on social media.
“I have been living in both cities for many years and have closely witnessed the food culture there,” says Wasim Akram. Lahore is famous for its authentic taste and bold flavors, especially spicy food, he says, and it is a testament to its rich culinary heritage. But Karachi is more diverse, as people from different regions live there and combine different food styles and flavors in one city.
He said he went to the old food places and relished the classic chana chaat and the traditional meat items during his recent visit to Lahore for the PSL final. However, he also added that Karachi has much more to offer, from street food to continental food, all under one roof.
Wasim Akram did not say which city was better than the other in the end. Instead, he said that each city has its own strengths. Lahore is famous for its taste and tradition. Karachi is famous for its variety and diversity. This balanced viewpoint helped to settle the ongoing debate in a friendly way.
The Karachi-Lahore food talk basically says that food tastes are a matter of personal choice, and both cities are proud to have something for everybody.
