KHAIRPUR: A horrific accident occurred between a passenger coach and a trailer on the national highway near Tandomasti in Khairpur, resulting in the death of 11 people and the serious injury of 15 others.

Police officials say that the passenger coach was going from Bahawalpur to Karachi when the sudden brake failure near Tandomasti caused the coach to lose control and collide with the trailer coming from the opposite direction.

According to rescue sources, the driver and conductor of the coach are among the deceased, while the condition of several passengers is said to be critical, due to which the death toll is likely to increase.

As soon as the accident was reported, rescue and police teams reached the spot and started rescue operations. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals where they are being given medical assistance.

According to the police, the initial investigation indicates that the possible cause of the accident is the failure of the coach’s brakes, however, a full investigation into the incident has been launched to reveal the real reasons for the accident.

The accident in the area affected traffic flow for some time, but later the police restored the highway to traffic. Authorities have instructed drivers to check the fitness and brake systems of their vehicles before long journeys to avoid such unfortunate accidents.
