18 dead, 57 injured in Punjab rain related incidents

LAHORE: In a tragic rain-related incident in Punjab, monsoon rains took the lives of 18 people, including 11 children, whereas 57 individuals were injured in 24 hours, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

According to the PDMA’s recent fact sheet, most of the deaths occurred due to the collapse of old buildings and roofs.

Additionally, the rains destroyed 27 houses, PDMA reported. “Two people were killed in incidents of lightning strike in Khanewal and Okara, while two children were electrocuted to death in Mandi Bahauddin,” the report added.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the first spell of monsoon would continue to affect the province till July 1.

Urban flooding in Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala cities of Punjab was forecasted by the weather reports.

A contingency alert has been announced for the provincial urban centers, whereas bathing and swimming in rivers, canals, and rain drains have been banned by the authorities, Director General PDMA Punjab added.

PDMA Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday reported that 20 individuals lost their lives and some were injured due to the flood and rain-related accidents in the province.
