ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has intervened to prevent a trial court from issuing a final verdict in the high-profile £190 million case of former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, here on Wednesday.

As per the details, the court headed by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb heard the petitions challenging the sentence of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. The petitions seek acquittal and stay of further proceedings in the trial court.

In their petition, Khan and Bushra Bibi sought to restrain the trial court from proceeding with the trial while their appeal was pending in the High Court.

The Islamabad High Court has directed the trial court to proceed with the case but restrained it from pronouncing the final verdict. Additionally, the court directed the lawyers representing Khan and Bushra Bibi to submit relevant documents and issued notices on their acquittal pleas. The hearing of the case was adjourned till September 26.

Earlier, the accountability court rejected the acquittal pleas of Khan and Bushra Bibi and filed an appeal in the Islamabad High Court.

The case, which revolves around allegations of financial corruption of £190 million, has attracted significant attention and remains a focal point in Pakistan’s political and legal arenas.
