20kg flour bag witnesses hike up by Rs130 in Lahore

LAHORE: A 20-kg bag of wheat flour witnesses a hike in prices as the bag costs up to Rs1,230 in the open market on Saturday, according to media reports.

The Kiryana Merchants Association reports that the price of a 20-kg flour bag has risen by Rs. 130 in the last two weeks. The flour mill owners stated that if the price of wheat stabilizes, flour prices will fall.

Flour mill operators reported that wheat is being purchased for more than Rs2,300 per 40 kg, even though prices were lower on the open market two weeks prior.

Earlier, according to figures released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday, Pakistan’s annual inflation rate in April 2025 was a record low of 0.3 percent on an annual basis.

It is important to note that Pakistan’s annual inflation rate reached its highest level in history in May 2023, reaching a record high of 37.97 percent.

In April 2025, CPI inflation fell to 0.3 percent on an annual basis, down from 0.7 percent the month before and 17.3 percent in April 2024. On a month-over-month basis, it fell by 0.8 percent in April 2025 after rising by 0.9 percent the month before and falling by 0.4 percent in April 2024.

Urban CPI inflation dropped to 0.5 percent year-over-year in April 2025 from 1.2 percent the month before and 19.4 percent in April 2024. On a month-over-month basis, it fell by 0.7 percent in April 2025 after rising by 0.8 percent the month before and falling by 0.1 percent in April 2024.
