4 dead, 19 injured in rain related incidents across Punjab

LAHORE: At least four lives were lost and 19 were injured in rain-related accidents in Punjab on Thursday. The Monsoon season has now officially begun in Pakistan, with rains lashing multiple cities across the country.

Lahore and some areas of Punjab experienced the first substantial monsoon rains, which brought public life to a halt by causing flooding, huge traffic jams, and power breakdowns. Downpour and lightning also inflicted damage on public life and property.

Four individuals lost their lives, whereas another 19 people were injured in rain-related incidents in the province, according to a report released by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Thursday.

Two citizens were killed as dilapidated buildings collapsed in Okara and Bahawalnagar. Two citizens lost their lives due to drowning in Jhelum. 13 dilapidated buildings and mud houses were affected by the wet spell.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia has ordered the provision of the best medical care to the victims. He stated that the victimized families would be compensated. “Facility would also be ensured to the relatives of those killed in pursuance of the government policy,” he said.

PDMA DG called for precautionary actions from the citizens. He added that this monsoon spell of rains will last until July 1. “Citizens are requested to exercise precautionary actions during rainy and windy weather”, he added.
