LAYYAH: Five children drowned in Rahim Yar Khan and Layyah during the Eid ul Adha days while bathing amid soaring heat in Southern Punjab.
According to rescue officials, two children died after drowning into the Shadab Canal near Faizabad in Rahim Yar Khan while rescue operation is underway to recover the bodies.
Authorities said that the 7-year-old Shahzad and 5-year-old Sonia were siblings and they suddenly fell into the canal and drowned while playing on the bank of canal.
On the other hand, three children drowned while bathing in the river Indus in Jakhar Jumanshah area of Layyah. Rescue official said that the dead body of two have been found while the search for third is ongoing.
