Additional funds allocated for salaries and allowances of railway employees

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has proposed to allocate Rs 70 billion 478 million for the Railway Division in the budget for the financial year 2026-27, which is Rs 2319 thousand more than the previous financial year.

According to the budget documents, Rs 70 billion 4578 million were allocated for the Railway Division in the previous financial year 2025-26.

For the next financial year, it has been proposed to keep Rs 138 million for the salaries of railway employees, while Rs 232 million has been recommended for various allowances of employees.

According to the budget documents, Rs 685 million has been proposed for the operating expenses of the railways, while Rs 114 million has been proposed for the payment of retirement benefits of railway employees.

Similarly, it has been recommended to allocate Rs 70 billion in grants, subsidies and loans to the railways, which is the largest part of the overall budget.

According to the documents, Rs 508,000 has been proposed for the physical assets of the railways, while Rs 17.9 million has been proposed for repair and maintenance expenses.

It has been recommended to allocate Rs 88 million for the salaries of railway officers and Rs 53 million for the salaries of other staff.

The budget also includes a proposal to increase the amount allocated for regular allowances to Rs 215.2 million.
