ISLAMABAD: The brother of a prominent anchor from a leading news network was detained by customs authorities at Karachi Airport for attempting to smuggle 22 bottles of imported alcohol, valued at millions of rupees.

The incident occurred when customs officers grew suspicious due to the large amount of luggage and conducted a search.

The alcohol bottles were seized, and the individual was taken into custody. However, after the news spread, a call from a high-ranking political figure led to the release of the man, though the alcohol was confiscated. Sources at the airport revealed that anchor had contacted customs officials to arrange special treatment for his brother’s arrival.

Following the incident, the case was escalated to senior officials, including the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). Subsequently, the authorities took action, seizing the alcohol but allowing the suspect to leave. Reports also suggest that one airport officer was later transferred as a result of the incident.
