KARACHI: Pakistan has taken a major step towards technological self-sufficiency with the launch of its first indigenously manufactured ventilator, which was unveiled by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal.

According to reports, the development, developed by a private company, is a major milestone for Pakistan’s innovation sector and is part of the ‘Iran Pakistan’ initiative, which aims to promote domestic technology.

During the event, Iqbal praised the company behind the ventilator, calling it a “champion of Oran Pakistan”, and stressed the importance of similar efforts for Pakistan’s progress in an increasingly competitive world. He urged the country to nurture a new generation of individuals who combine hard work, ambition and intelligence to drive progress.

Iqbal also highlighted the negative perception of Pakistan, acknowledging that despite the hardworking people of the nation, some forces have tarnished the country’s global image. He called for collective efforts to reshape Pakistan’s future, especially as it approaches the 100th anniversary of its independence in 2047.

He stressed the importance of innovation in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the rise of new technologies. Iqbal stressed that Pakistan, despite its smaller population compared to some of its neighbors, has the potential to overtake its competitors in technological advancement in the next two decades.

The minister, citing successful countries like Japan and South Korea, highlighted the need for policy continuity and long-term reforms. He also set ambitious targets to increase Pakistan’s exports from $30 billion to $100 billion in the next 8-9 years and called on the private sector, especially in the agriculture and industrial sectors, to lead the effort.

Iqbal concluded by emphasizing that the future of Pakistan’s economy depends on innovation, industrialization and an export-led economy, urging the youth to embrace technology and help the country compete globally.
