The spokesperson of the Housing Department said that programs have been introduced to provide housing to citizens.
Under the Affordable Housing Program, a project of 57,000 residences is in the pipeline, the approval of which is expected from the provincial cabinet next week.
It was further said that, on the instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab, the speed of loan disbursement has been increased, and citizens can submit loan applications from home.
In a major move towards social welfare and addressing housing issues, the government of Punjab has made an investment of Rs42.013 billion under its flagship housing assistance program, ‘Apni Chat Apna Ghar‘.
It is the biggest provincial investment in interest-free housing assistance in Punjab’s history.
The funds, made available under the Annual Development Programme 2025–26, have been deposited into the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) account to expand the program within the urban development department.
The funds are allocated following a suggestion from the Housing, Urban Development & Public Health Engineering Department (HUD&PHED), which highlighted the scheme’s growing reach and popularity.
Inaugurated in August 2024, the program offers interest-free loans of Rs1.5 million to those who own land to build their houses. So far, more than 51,900 families have availed themselves of the benefit, with 6,160 homes finished and 45,163 homes being built in the province.
