Appointment of new AJK CEC nears completion, Asif Shah likely to be selected

ISLAMABAD (Basharat Abassi):  The process for appointing a new Chief Election Commissioner in Azad Jammu and Kashmir has entered its final stage.

President PML-N AJK and Opposition Leader Shah Ghulam Qadir held an important meeting with Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore to discuss the shortlisted candidates.

According to sources, former Chief Secretary AJK and former Secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan, Syed Asif Shah, has emerged as the strongest candidate for the position.

Three names — Syed Asif Shah, Farhat Ali Mir, and Khawaja Naseem — are under consideration, with Asif Shah expected to be appointed.

The final decision is likely to be announced soon.
