At least 38 people killed in gun attack on passenger vehicles in Kurram

KURRAM: At least 38 people were killed and 29 others injured after gunmen opened fire on passenger vehicles in the Ochat area of Kurram district on Thursday.

Deputy Commissioner Kurram Javedullah Mehsud confirmed that the convoy of three vehicles traveling from Parachinar to Peshawar was targeted, leading to a number of casualties including a woman and a child.

The injured were being referred to various hospitals in the district and some to Peshawar, THQ Hospital Kurram officials said, adding that the death toll is likely to rise.

No group claimed responsibility for the incident.

President Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemned the terrorist incident in Kurram district and expressed grief over the loss of precious lives in the incident.

Zardari instructed the authorities concerned to take perpetrators of the attack on innocent citizens to the task.

According to the statement issued on X by PPP’s media cell, President Zardari prayed to Allah Almighty for peace for the departed souls and strength for the bereaved families to bear the loss.

He also prayed for early recovery of the injured and emphasised the best possible medical treatment for them.
