ISLAMABAD: The # (NAB) on Wednesday denied reports of receiving orders to arrest Moonis Elahi, a federal minister and son of PMLQ leader and Punjab Speaker Pervez Elahi, saying that all the speculations about a rumoured NAB inquiry against the politician are baseless.

The statement came after Pervaiz’s recent comments where he said that a vengeful prime minister resorted to NAB to tackle his opponents.

“Arresting PML-Q leader Moonis Elahi is out of the question,” the national anti-graft watchdog said in a written clarification regarding the reports of allegedly receiving orders for the politician’s arrest.

NAB denied all the media reports regarding the probe or orders for arrest, saying that there is no inquiry underway against Moonis Elahi.

On Tuesday, Pervaiz while speaking at a private TV channel said that his party started receiving threats after Moonis’ speech.

“We started receiving threats from NA when Moonis Elahi made a speech. This is not the way to govern,” the politician had said.

He said the PML-Q has stood by the government, but it has spoiled its relations even with its own people and it is panicking because of its own members.

As per a report by a news paper, a leading anti-graft agency was allegedly told to arrest Moonis, either “to put pressure on the PML-Q or there is some other issue involved.”

Interestingly, the government agency that was told to arrest the federal minister, had shared the information with the Chaudhrys of Gujrat. The agency told there is no pending case against the younger Chaudhry from Gujrat, yet there is a direction to get Moonis arrested.
