BAHAWALPUR: A tragic incident has occurred at the Bahawalpur Zoo, where a seven-year-old Bengal male tiger has passed on account of kidney problems. The tiger, born in the zoo, suffered from acute renal failure, as per the medical report.
This incident raises serious doubts about the living conditions and health care dispensed to zoo animals. Citizens have been gripped by a sense of panic and are all urging zoo administration to allocate high priority to keeping the magnificent beasts well.
Undoubtedly, the death of the Bengal tiger does not stand alone as days ago, another was suffering from an eye ailment in the same zoo. This has begun to raise questions concerning how these animals live and the kinds of medical treatment prescribed to them.
Ramping pressure is being applied on the zoo regarding the condition of the animals and their overall health.
A week ago at Karachi Zoo, yet another 17-year-old African lion died after attaining an average lifespan. This lion was one of four big cats that authorities confiscated in 2010, following a violation of animal import policy.
The animals were transferred to the zoo, where they lived for just over a decade. The whole zoo administration was somewhat navigated by Raza Abbas Rizvi, who happens to be senior director of recreation at KMC, to say that the African lion had attained its average lifespan of 17-20 years in captivity.
