Bilawal optimistic for justice, sees opportunity to rectify historical wrongs

ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has addressed the media outside the Supreme Court after attending a hearing related to the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto reference. Accompanied by his aunt, Sanam Bhutto, and sister Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, Bilawal expressed hope for justice, emphasizing the opportunity to correct historical injustices.

“We hope that the PPP will get justice. We think that it is an opportunity to correct history,” said Chairman Bilawal. He highlighted the unique legal precedent of the case, underscoring the need to rectify past decisions influenced by dictatorial agendas.

Responding to questions from journalists, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed his desire for a timely resolution of the case, stating, “We desired that the case should have been heard regularly instead of being adjourned till after the elections. We hope that the case will be decided after the elections.” He affirmed the PPP’s commitment to participate in the upcoming elections scheduled for 8 February.

Chairman Bilawal shared the recent electoral successes of the PPP in local bodies elections in Karachi and Hyderabad, emphasizing the party’s ability to efficiently govern at multiple levels. He highlighted the PPP’s comprehensive 10-point economic agenda designed to address poverty, inflation, and unemployment.

Addressing the controversy surrounding election symbols, Bilawal dismissed the notion of the “cricket bat” as an election symbol, asserting it was a strategic move to favor Imran Khan. He clarified that the PPP has consistently contested on the “arrow” symbol since the snatching of its original “sword” symbol.

Regarding the imprisonment of Imran Khan, Chairman Bilawal called for a transparent judicial process, stating, “We do not think that our judicial system is so transparent that a death sentence can be given to anyone.” He criticized Imran Khan’s earlier calls for public hangings, emphasizing the PPP’s principled stance against the death penalty.

In a broader context, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari urged all political parties to learn from history, emphasizing the need for a level playing field in elections.
