Canadian team pleased with security of Karachi Airport: PCCA

KARACHI: The Transport Canada Aviation Security inspectors analysed security measures of the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi with the corporation of Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA).

The assessment included examining airport security protocols and terming them in line with international standards and best practices.

The Transport Canada Aviation Inspectors, Barbara Durette, and Abdel Tahir led the assessment, hosted by PCAA and overseen by Avsec Director retired Air Commodore Shahid Qadir.

The security team focused on analysing passenger and baggage screening, perimeter protection, cargo, and catering security, as well as security protocols for direct flights to Canada.

They also monitored security measures for PIA flights to Toronto, assessing access control, aircraft protection, security searches, and related procedures, the PCAA spokesman said.

In a debriefing session, custom crest and gifts were awarded to the Canadian team by Nadir Shafi Dar, the deputy director general, on behalf of the aviation secretary, retired Captain Saif Anjum.

The team expressed their gratitude by thanking the management for their hospitality and kindness. Their visit was a successful effort towards the development of Pakistan International Airlines.

In a separate development, Pakistan International Airlines announced plans regarding commencing direct flights to Jeddah from Faisalabad and Quetta to facilitate residents of the two cities.

Yesterday, PIA announced 15 percent discount offers for Umrah pilgrims for those traveling from Toronto to Saudi Arabia through Lahore. New flights are aimed to facilitate travel for the Umrah pilgrimage and other travel needs of citizens, starting from Aug 6 this year.
