SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: A large-scale operation by Frontier Corps (South) in the South Waziristan region of Pakistan has revealed a damning nexus between the Afghan Taliban and an extremist organization called “Fitna al-Khawarij.
In line with reports, security forces apprehended would-be suicide bomber Naimatullah, a native of Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, who made shocking admissions regarding the recruitment and training of young Afghan boys for terrorist attacks in Pakistan.
As per the officials, the detained bomber indicated that he was a student at one of the madrassas in Kandahar, where certain people persuaded him that “jihad against the Pakistani army is justified.” He stated that dozens of young Afghan people were being brainwashed and sent across the border for suicide attacks.
In his confession, Nimatullah revealed that approximately 40 young men congregated in Khost to enter Pakistan through Chiawar. They went on to reach the Lalayzai region of Barwand in South Waziristan, where the Taliban had set up a training camp. Their leader, named Umar Hamas, was tasked with training suicide bombers.
Naimatullah said that the training program took three months, although he had received just one week of training. “We were instructed on how to conduct suicide attacks by using cars and how to attack army check-posts,” he confessed. The detainee added that his group had a majority of youth between the ages of 18 and 22.
During the training, however, Nimatullah professed to have had a change of heart. “I heard the call to prayer and realized that Pakistani soldiers are also Muslims,” he admitted. “It is haram to conduct a suicide attack against them.”
Authorities confirmed that Afghan Taliban groups and the “Fitna al-Khawarij” network are involved in the religious indoctrination of underage Afghan children for the purpose of employing them as terrorism tools against Pakistan’s military forces.
The confession has once again raised concerns regarding cross-border militant coordination and recruitment of vulnerable young radicals by extremist networks.
Investigations are ongoing to identify the handlers of the network and the training camps engaged in the recruitment and indoctrination of Afghan youth into terrorism in Pakistan.
