ISLAMABAD: The judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan will now require a nod from the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) for foreign and within in country visits.

A Presidential Order recently promulgated by President Asif Ali Zardari, which is called as Supreme Court Judges (Leave, Pension and Privileges) (Amendment) Order 2025.

The order now makes the CJP in charge of granting or refusing leave, within Pakistan, or revoking or curtailing leave already granted to the judges.

General Standing Order was issued by the apex court Registrar stating that the whole time of a judge is at the disposal of the Supreme Court, including leave, vacation, and holidays.

The SOPs provide that the CJP must employ these powers with appropriate diligence and in the public interest. All types of leave must be requested in advance and backed by valid grounds.

According to SOPs, while traveling overseas, a “No Objection Certificate” must be obtained from the Chief Justice of Pakistan. A judge on leave/vacation must disclose their current residence and contact information.

The foreign ministry will be requested for necessary facilitation and protocol  only in case of official visits abroad.
