LAHORE: In a recent development, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the Punjab Home Department, has initiated a province-wide awareness campaign to prevent minors from sexual abuse.
As part of this campaign, children will learn about “good touch“ and “bad touch“ in an animated series. The animated series will feature two animated characters named Haya and Bahadur.
They will teach kids how to tell a safe physical interaction from an unsafe one. The series intends for all content to be child-centered, implementing courteous and age-appropriate content to help children learn about their safety and notifying an adult as a first step if they have experienced specific behavior.
The campaign will carry the mantra that “We will not be afraid of those who are already attempting bad touch; we will confront them,“ and also encourage children to be vocal about what inappropriate behavior they may experience.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department stated, “There is a need of the hour for the education of children on personal safety. This campaign not only raises awareness among children, but it will encourage the parents and teachers to teach them on how to report and disclose abuse, whether at home, school, or anywhere else.“
The campaign will be implemented across schools, community centers, and digital platforms to ensure it reaches as many children and families as possible.
