CM Maryam Nawaz unveils digital welfare grant scheme for Punjab workers

LAHORE: The Punjab government announced major reforms for the welfare of workers and abolished the manual system for workers’ welfare grants and launched a modern online mechanism for marriage, death, and scholarship grants.

The Provincial Labour Minister Muhammad Manshaullah Butt formally launched a direct credit system where welfare grants were directly transferred into the workers’ bank accounts with just one click.

The new system replaces the cheque-based process and seeks to ensure transparency, efficiency, and timely disbursement of funds.

Speaking on the occasion, the labour minister said the online system would relieve the workers from the repeated visits to the government offices and dependence on the middlemen.

He added that the new mechanism would also deal with delays and complaints about grant payments.

Under the old cheque system, workers often waited for over three months to receive grants, although the new system is meant to speed things up.

Secretary Workers Welfare Funds Mujtaba Bharwana briefed the provincial minister on the features and implementation of the online system.

The move was welcomed by the workers and their family members, who thanked Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for prioritizing labour welfare.

Labour Minister said that Institutional reforms were being carried out under the leadership of the Chief Minister; reiterated that Workers’ welfare remains at the top priority of the Punjab Government.

He said, from now onwards, the grants would be distributed strictly on merit, and full transparency would be ensured, setting new standards for labour welfare in the Province.
